"max, it's sleepytime"

My silly guy and I have quite the "sleepytime" routine. After his bath, I lay down with him on the bed and we watch TV together. After a few minutes of cuddling, he gets restless and I ask him (via sign language and simply pointing) if he wants to go to his crib. He then smiles and points. I put him in his crib with his numerous fun "sleepytime" toys (i.e. oximeter, baby IPOD, a musical farm, a book and a few cars. (Quite the collection I know, but it works!) He then plays around for about 5 - 60 minutes depending on how sleepy he is. Before I leave the room, I always ask for a kiss and he gives me a big smooch between the crib bars.

However, the other night Mighty Max was quite a wild man. He was hooting and hollering and sounding like a monkey (perhaps he noticed that on his PJs) and so I couldn't help myself, I had to go observe and perhaps play a little. I opened the door just a crack and he spotted me...and instantly puckered his lips. It was hilarious!!! After giggling like crazy and getting a few more smooches thrown my way, I signed "sleepytime" to him to remind him to go to sleep. He then signed it back with a big smooch on the end. Needless to say, this went on for quite some time! :)

Then the next time I checked on him, he was carrying around his oximeter and actually placed it beside the edge of the crib and tried to stand on it to climb OUT of the crib. He isn't big enough to make that happen, but I find it hilarious (and VERY smart) that he is at least attempting his big escape!

This guy is developing quite the personality! Love you Max...and I just LOVE your smooches! :)

"Sure, sure I am heading to bed. No worries."

"Wait, I think the oximeter needs to be over here. Then all will be well." (Note what Max is carrying)

charge syndrome

CHARGE syndrome is a recognizable (genetic) pattern of birth defects which occurs in about one in every 9-10,000 births worldwide. It is an extremely complex syndrome, involving extensive medical and physical difficulties that differ from child to child. The vast majority of the time, there is no history of CHARGE syndrome or any other similar conditions in the family. Babies with CHARGE syndrome are often born with life-threatening birth defects, including complex heart defects and breathing problems. They spend many months in the hospital and undergo many surgeries and other treatments. Swallowing and breathing problems make life difficult even when they come home. Most have hearing loss, vision loss, and balance problems which delay their development and communication. All are likely to require medical and educational intervention for many years. Despite these seemingly insurmountable obstacles, children with CHARGE syndrome often far surpass their medical, physical, educational, and social expectations.
