the artist at work

Maxwell and I have been practicing on one of our many goals (and IEP objectives for '09-'10), and we are starting to see progress. YAY!

The goal is for Max to draw a face with all the correct parts. He can draw a circle but he just wasn't getting the concept of making it a face. So I tried to hand over hand approach and that has worked really well. I let him lead but my hand encourages him if needed.

Other times I will draw the face and purposely leave out an ear or the hair and ask him "what else?". He then will point to the part on his body. Once the face is completed, he will point out everything. So cute! I am really pleased with the progress from the last few weeks! :)

Since Max definitely prefers my help with the artwork, he has been a bit bossy in requesting some assistance. I have been teaching him that he needs to sign "momma, help" instead of just yelling and thrusting the pen in my face. Since this photo was taken, we have actually had several successful polite requests. YAY!

And sometimes Max just likes to draw horizontal and vertical lines, which was a goal reached this year. Hooray!
