Ok, you know how sometimes a comedian tells a joke, no one laughs and they tap the microphone "is this thing on?" Keep that visual.
So Max and I do a lot of play/work with the alphabet and we have lots and lots of toys that are just perfect for this activity. He LOVES it all...very cute! His favorite is for me to sign AND sing the alphabet song with lots of animation. :)
Occasionally when we are "communicating" (me signing/speaking, him observing/gesturing), I will turn off one mode. For example, I will only speak, and other times I will only sign. Then other times I will "sandwich" the two languages. Sign, then speak (the same thing I signed) and then sign again. We are attempting different modes to see which works best for him...which really captures his attention.
I was doing this the other day when the alphabet. I was singing and signing it to him and then stopped singing. After a little bit, he realized...wait I can't hear her anymore. And guess what? Yep, take that visual from earlier and picture Max tapping his hearing aide..."is this thing on?"
Absolutely perfect! Sooooooo funny...and soooo appropriate! And he always smiles when my voice comes back "on!"
And if that wasn't cool enough, we tried the other way...only singing and no signing. Sure enough after a few letters, he picked up my hand like "c'mon lady, I need the signs too!"
This boy...wow, he sure amazes me each and every day! (I'll try and capture these both on video, because seriously they are priceless!)
