Ok, so here's the rundown again of our exciting evening:
SPEAKING
Max and I were watching Gina walk to her car, and I kept (at times I feel like such a broken record!) saying/signing "bye bye Gina, bye bye Gina." Sure enough Max then took his turn and oh so sweetly said "INA". So exciting! (Bill had just arrived so he got to witness this moment too!)
SIGNING
I got Max to say it three more times and then he even added the sign too. (Her name sign is the letter "G".) Gina walked back to the window so she could hear/see it and she was definitely impressed!!! This is a first for him to use a name for someone besides me. (And for me, he uses it for anyone he wants to bring back into the room!)
HOW AMAZING IS THAT??? We were flipping out!
STANDING
It's become our nightly routine that Max walks between me and Bill (about three feet) and he just loves it. As soon as Bill arrived last night, Max immediately wanted to start our walking game. So cute! (Then we paused to say goodbye to Gina...and that's when the exciting "INA" moment happened.)
He is getting more and more confident with letting go and not completely lunging for us. Sometimes he even seems to get a few balanced steps in there. And then last night, he paused and stood independently for about 2-3 solid seconds. All three of us were in amazement!!!
He has stood independently before but not during walking. This takes a lot of coordination! Usually his momentum is the only thing keeping him upright.
This standing moment might have been a fluke, but it was very exciting nonetheless. His PT and I were just discussing his future abilities that very day. We have overcome so many muscular and strength issues with him, however the lack of vestibular function is proving to be a major obstacle. So while he is a very strong and determined boy, his brain and body are having to learn how to compensate for this missing system.
She was encouraging me that someday he will stand and someday he will probably walk...but it will just require this continuous commitment to teaching Max's body how to compensate and overcome. Truly amazing what our bodies can do. Can you imagine learning how to walk without any balance? He is one determined, incredible lil' man.
On a side note, it's funny for me to stop and think how excited I get that my THREE year old stood for two seconds. My three year old standing...no, not my ten month old...my three year old. Oh how my life and "expectations" have changed! :) I have certainly learned to appreciate each and every moment with this lil' miracle boy. What a blessing!
So that my friends was our evening. Pretty darn impressive if you ask me! Wonder what tricks Mighty Max has ready for me today!?! :)

Wow! What an exciting evening - go, Max, go! What a tribute to the hard work of Max and your mama support!
My daughter Vivian was recently diagnosed with CHARGE, and as she reaches milestones on her own schedule, the sweetness and the excitement of those moments is BIG. Yesterday I got SO excited because she put her toes in her mouth for the first time! And I stopped and thought "Hmmmm. Most mamas probably don't jump up and down and write it on the calendar as a big deal..." But we did!
Many, many congratulations on Max's 3 S's yesterday!
Max, you are awesome! Keep up the great work standing and walking, signing and TALKING--oh my gosh!!
Lots of hugs (from a mom who is excited her 3-year old is using is walker),
