ASL class

So I have decided I need to get really serious about becoming fluent in ASL.

I always make sure to know enough to teach Maxwell and to demonstrate sentences, labels and questions. However, it was a reality check a few weeks ago when I attempted to converse with two individuals who were deaf...without any interpreter. Time to get serious.

(Doesn't it sometimes feel like every month you focus on another "ball" in life and make sure that one is not going to drop???)

We started a class through HSDC on Monday and it was awesome. There are no spoken words in class...ALL sign...which really keeps you focused. Bill is taking the class with me because he wants to better communicate with Maxwell and help with his signing. How great is that? (But he almost got us both in trouble because he kept trying to talk with me!)

I'll probably need to eventually hire someone independently to work with me and Max at home, but for now I think this class is going to help a lot.

We are really looking forward to our next class!

I once heard about Christianity' "you can only take your kids as far in their spiritual walk as you have been yourself." I guess the same holds true for every aspect of our lives. Way to go, Amy, on learning more in order to help Max achieve more in life! And I am excited to hear some updates on the progress. Oh, and Bill sounds like a pretty special person to be as involved as he is! :)

Mr. Max,
Every time I check your blog you keep making leaps and bounds and your mommy is doing everything she can to keep you up to speed. You both are a great example to many.
Keep up the great work.

We find this difficult too, and school provide signalong whereas we want to learn BSL which is different, so we end up rather confused most days with our signs...good luck Amy pretty certain you will master it!
