the mighty max update: meet max's friends

We are incredibly blessed to have a wonderful therapy playgroup every Monday morning. Not only do we get help from therapists, we get to spend time with our fun friends!

Cooper, Jayna and Eva (and their mommies) at snacktime (aka feeding therapy). Each week we practice with various textures or flavors to encourage the kiddos to broaden their food interests. Always a mixed reaction!

Check out Max trying crushed pineapple...and using the spoon all by himself! :)

After snacktime, we move on to the sensory table and work with various textures...i.e. beans, cornmeal, etc.

Hold on to that shovel Dylan...Cooper is definitely eyeing it!

And here is Max spending time with his beloved, Jayna. Isn't she soooooo adorable? Max and I both have a crush on this lil' angel! :)

They kissed for the first time today at group...his first *girl kiss*!

Max used to freak out upon entering the room with the sensory table. Most of the time he actually refused! Now you can see, he is ALL about it! What a transformation!

charge syndrome

CHARGE syndrome is a recognizable (genetic) pattern of birth defects which occurs in about one in every 9-10,000 births worldwide. It is an extremely complex syndrome, involving extensive medical and physical difficulties that differ from child to child. The vast majority of the time, there is no history of CHARGE syndrome or any other similar conditions in the family. Babies with CHARGE syndrome are often born with life-threatening birth defects, including complex heart defects and breathing problems. They spend many months in the hospital and undergo many surgeries and other treatments. Swallowing and breathing problems make life difficult even when they come home. Most have hearing loss, vision loss, and balance problems which delay their development and communication. All are likely to require medical and educational intervention for many years. Despite these seemingly insurmountable obstacles, children with CHARGE syndrome often far surpass their medical, physical, educational, and social expectations.

Amélie said...: yes what a great idea we dont have a play group as such although we did go to one at Amélies new school. It is great to mix with other parents too for our sanity at times to realise we are not alone.

He displayed a lot of anti-social behavior. I'm hoping with time he'll play with the other kids. I'm impressed that Max got over her fears and is now playing with the sensory table!
