We were able to get in to the doctor's today (a fabulous on-call doctor, Kristy - I will have to tell you about him) and yep, he's sick. But the good news is that no infection is currently present, so drum roll please....NO MEDS! :) Yikes, I think this is one of the very first times we avoided additional medications. (He just finished his last round of antibiotics a few days ago.)
He is having quite a difficult time with the fever, along with a rapid breathing rate (120). But all in all, he is handling it ok. I am to keep a close eye on him (as usual) to ensure pneumonia isn't settling in.
It's always funny to have a new doctor examine Max. You can always see a slightly overwhelmed look on their face when reviewing his file (well, one of the many)...and then they typically turn to me and ask for the highlights of his condition. This guy was wonderful, absolutely wonderful and really was thorough and kind with Maxwell. And he was considerate about Maxwell's challenges and extra cautious because of his medical issues. We have been very blessed with such a supportive medical team.
After the appointment and another dose of Tylenol, we headed to the store quickly for some necessities. Max really enjoyed the opportunity to walk and even try a few samples of food. Can you believe crab cakes? Yep, he tried crab cakes of all things and actually seemed to like it. And so what did I do? Bought them of course (definitely not on our "list" of necessities)...pretty much anything Maxwell willingly sticks into his mouth and chew is a no brainer for me. The next aisle had a sample of freeze dried fruit and once again Max was interested. So once again, the box went in our cart (again, definitely not on our "list"). And yes, we did get quite a few stares when I was loudly praising Max for trying the food and reminding him to "chew, chew, chew." :)
However, when we got out to the car, I found a remnant of BOTH still in his mouth. He still hasn't mastered the complete art of swallowing. Yet he doesn't like to spit out the "remnants" either, so I have to wait for just the right opportunity to take them out. Weird, I know...but it works. So all in all, a successful adventure.
So now we have crab cake appetizers and freeze dried fruit...cocktail party anyone? :)

Max - I love your taste in appetizers. Very bold flavors for such a little guy! Hope you're feeling 100% soon so mommy can take you out on more tasting adventures.
You may have already heard this. I just read in the Gazette that your ex is having marital problems and is separated from his 4th wife. What a creep. I hope someday he gets his just rewards. I read your blog daily and I really feel for you. Max is such and angel and you seem like a wonderful mother. The little guy deserves a decent father. It is such a shame that some parents are just so worthless. Max is lucky he has you, at least one great parent. Hang in there and hopefully you will get your rewards someday.........

I remember reading about Max when he was a baby....your Mom is a friend of mine. My son, Samuel, who is 6, was recently diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome so even though he is older, we are just now entering the world of "Special Needs"... I so enjoyed reading of all of Maxwell's adventures... and see similarities in Sensory issues and determination and eating... Sam actually put a grape in his mouth and bit down before spitting it out the other day. I praised him highly for trying it and yes, people around me wondered, I am sure. Just like they wondered about Sam's quirky, in charge, behavior. Anyway - your writing is very inspirational to me. Thank you.
