another reminder of "typical" development

As much as I love to focus on Max's strengths and his incredible progress (so amazing!), I am reminded occasionally of the reality of "typical" development. Fortunately every day I get emotionally stronger and better able to handle these moments.

Today I was reading a friend's blog and she listed what her 11-month old lil' girl is doing these days...oh my gosh. They are doing some of the same things...AND actually she is ahead of Max in many areas (particulary language). I know Max obviously has global developmental delays, but when his development compared to that of a baby...wow, what a reminder.

It's ok, I really am ok with it. But it is one of those moments that you just kind of nod your head and think "oh...wow." And then you take a deep breath, and move on to Max's next therapy appointment.

Maxwell is de' bomb!! He has come such a long ways and we can thank God he is with us and teaching us patience and love. Hang in there sweet Amy. You and Maxwell are getting there, just a little slower than you want. Just look how adorable that little man is.

Love,
Diane and Alexandra

Oh how I have missed seeing Max pictures! What a handsome boy in that sweater. His brown eyes and hair make him look older than he is.
Thank you Amy for posting pictures of what a hearing test at Children's looks like. I get so much info from your blog I wanted to tell you I appreciate the time and effort you put into this. You are one amazing Momma to one stellar kiddo! Keep on :)

Amy
"Typical" is in the eye of the beholder. I have 4 boys, only one with diagnosed "issues" and they all have their own "typical". Chin up and remeber to look back at how far Max has come and how far YOU have come. All that said...I hear ya girl!
Take care
Shari

Max always astounds me. He continues to be our benchmark and so too for countless others. Cx
