in the hospital

After seeing Maxwell again today, the doctor strongly suggested we admit him to the hospital. He is having some very strange episodes of holding his breath, dropping his sats, going blue and then nearly passing out. Bizarre and scary. Additionally his O2 sats had doubled last night which usually is a sign of a kiddo going downhill.

He had to be on O2 the entire day to maintain his sats (which is unusual), and we would turn him up anytime he had an "episode." He had several since he was not happy at all about being in the hospital. I tried everything in the world to make it fun, but peace would only last a few minutes at a time. :( Poor guy.

Depending on how the night goes, we are hoping to be home tomorrow. (I think he will do much better at home being in his own surroundings.) The doctor said he could easily stay there a few more days but if I feel comfortable, we could probably be discharged. We have all the necessary equipment and oxygen at home already. They just want to make sure nothing is worsening. Fortunately his lung xray didn't show pneumonia at this point...that was very encouraging.

It is so sad to see him so miserable and lethargic. Jim (brother in law) and Lori (friend) got a taste of it too. They both came to visit us this evening and Max wanted nothing to do with either...and these are two of his favorites! Eeks. Sorry guys...but thanks to both of you for trying!

Max's primary care doctor reminded me today to not get too worked up about being in the hospital this week. He said "Honestly, Max would qualify for hospital admittance about 50% of the time. He is almost always right there on that borderline." Yikes. I think he is doing so great (relatively speaking) and I forget how medically fragile he still is.

Hopefully tomorrow we are home, and he is miraculously feeling all better! :)

Amy, I'm so sorry Max isn't feeling good and having to go through all this. Those episodes must be really scary for you. It's hard to even think about Max being so sick, he's such a little go-getter. But remember his name, Mighty Max will be just fine. Take care of yourself and I'm keeping you both in my prayers. Hugs,
Shelly and Luke

I know hospitals are scary. However, let them get Max better. Especially since you don't have back up at home this week.

I'm praying for you both.
