speech evaluation

This morning we have an evaluation at Western. We have been taking weekly night classes to strengthen our communication as a team (The Hanen Program), but this therapy will be ongoing and more geared for verbal speech. We have been on the waiting list for many months and finally it's our turn. Yay! :)

Once our evaluation is completed, we will then get on rotation for clinic appointments. I am very excited about this....and also curious how we will add another two appointments in to our weekly schedule.

Despite his slight regression /standstill on gross motor development, I still consider speech the most important area of concentration. We will now have approximately 3-4 appointments each week for speech.

I know the evaluation results will show extreme delay. And while I know that, I never look forward to reading it again in print. You know? Each evaluation for OT, PT, speech, sign, behavior, etc. is always a harsh reality check. But that's ok...I am ready and prepared for it. I think.

Amy,
I don't know how you manage to keep up with that schedule of yours...you must be SuperWoman or something. Can't wait to see you and the rugrat in a week!!

Assessments are not a fun thing, no matter how compassionate the therapist. Remember how incredible you are as a mommy to amazing Mighty Max. *hugs*

I remember doing the Hanen program with my daughter 6 years ago. It was excellent for us.

Remember that even though evaluations say "delayed," Max has his own special timetable for achievements, and with all you are doing for him, he is really doing fantastically!
