Max doesn't tend to "perform" his signs on camera...but he cooperated a bit today. I am so proud of his communication progress! He truly amazes me.
In this video, he shows off some of our favorite signs and verbally says one of my very favorites...check it out. Seriously, his interpretation of watermelon is absolutely priceless! Enjoy!
I am still taking my sign class every week and definitely need to take the next several series as well. There is so much to learn, but I love knowing that I am doing something that will help our family in the long run. Sometimes I feel like I will never be fluent, but who knows...
What's ironic is that I took sign language in college and little did I realize I would be needing it for my son! I should have been paying more attention and less focused on what our sorority was doing that night. Oops!

I took my children to the fair this past week. The man running the huge slide was deaf. His wife and kids were with him and they were all signing..and I thought 'how NICE it would be for me to be able to sign to him as my kids were in his line'. I felt bad that I wasn't able to communicate with him...how small his world must be every day...
so I too am going to take ASL!
Thanks for being a good example in this Amy!

That is amazing. And, it is also a testament to what a truly fantastic mom you are as well. He is a smart boy, but he needs his encouraging mom to help bring out the very best. I'm so proud of both of you!
Oh my... watamelalala... I love it. Max you ARE the smartest.
its so important for people to know sign even if you dotn have in ur fam more and more as i go through life i wish i had kept up my aus sign language even tho im totaly verbal coz at afford we have two people who sign and another who does sign but has a ci and can hear ok i sometiems wish to be like her so i can comunicate the way i do it now is jsut pint to wat i want and look at them and go i want that lol but i do think if i knew more i could say in a better way what i want lol i am getting better coz i watch them and i figure out ways but still if everyone knew wed be able to go about with those who cant and comuincate better
Ellen, I totally agree. More people should know the sign language. We all learn other languages, like Spanish, English, French etc, but not many people learn the sign language. That makes the world of those who use it so much smaller and it's all our fault !!!
Max and Amy, you both are so amazing. I am just in awe as I watch that video. Its so cool that you can just say, "Whats this?" and he does the sign. AND he stacks those blocks so well. What an amazing boy, a true example of all of your hard work and determination Amy. Congratulations!
Love,
Heather (Kaden's mom)
