amazing progress with hearing aid!

I posted this on our listserv today and thought I would also share this most exciting news with our friends and family. This is BIG, very big!

"Ok, I am soooo excited about his latest "hearing aid" milestone and I just have to share. And hopefully this is encouraging for the families with children just getting a hearing aid.

I too was soooo frustrated in the beginning. His aid was always giving us feedback, it would never stay in, and he was constantly pulling at it.

For the past year, he has been great about wearing the one (the aid on the "CHARGE" ear is nearly impossible to keep in) and never takes it out. He does amazing with it! Well the big news is that lately (the last few weeks), he has demonstrated clearly when it is on or off. If the battery has died or it somehow has been turned off, he will tap the aid (like "hello, is this thing on?") trying to get sound. As soon as I fix it, he is happy again.

He even asks for the hearing aid the same way. Last night after his bath, I got him all cozy in his chair to watch his video before bedtime. I hadn't put the aid back in yet...and there he was tapping his ear. Basically saying...c'mon Mom, the video is no fun without the sound!

It is truly awesome! Such a journey is has been, but I consider his hearing progress incredibly successful and I am just thrilled."

Max, you're such a smart little boy! Although, I don't think your mommy gives herself enough credit. Maybe it isn't the video you want to hear so much as her telling you how much she loves you all the time!

That is awesome progress! Such a smart boy you are Max! I just love hearing all the things you do. We are constantly battling with the ringing and keeping the aids in. Luke will pull it out and fling it across the room. He can't stand the ringing. We go for new ear molds in May, hopefully that'll help.
