a new and wonderful addition to "our team"

Through our sign language instructor, we met a man from the local hearing and speech center this week. He lost his hearing at a very early age and uses 100% sign language to communicate.

I want Max and me to start being exposed more to the deaf community and truly become fluent in this beautiful and very necessary language. This was our first step in this process.

"D" has agreed to take on me and Max and start coming to our home to work with us. I am thrilled for this wonderful opportunity. He really emphasized the importance of Maxwell seeing people sign around him...and not just to him, so that he would get the concept of complete use of the language.

This to me is a very high priority, so now I am going to look at our other gazillion therapies and see what we can possibly cut...eeks! Mighty Max is definitely a full time job, but could you ask for a cuter, more amazing boss?!?! :)

That's great news - and so beneficiary to Max as well. I'm busy planning a trip to Disney World next summer - did you know they employ people who sign for their hearing impaired guests? It's a tidbit I ran across in my research and just thought it was such a nice feature.
