eating, eating, eating!!!

WOW! WOW! WOW! Max is making huge strides in the arena of "eating"...and I mean HUGE!

Not only is he EATING, but he is accepting really healthy food!!!

What's our recipe for success?

1) The right texture -- If not acceptable (this is the biggest issue right now), Max will immediately spit it out or give to the dogs (which makes them very happy).
2) The right bite size -- If it is too big or too small, he sometimes chokes or spits it out.
3) The right environment -- Maxwell thrives on lots and lots of encouragement and interaction.
4) The right toys -- He absolutely wants his favorite cars, blocks and book all within reaching distance. And if he drops one accidentally, you better retrieve it immediately! :)
5) Patience, patience, patience -- This has been a work in progress. It has taken hours a day for the past 1 1/2 years, but finally we are achieving amazing results! Each meal takes quite a lot of time and you really need to be engaged, but it certainly is worth the effort.

If all of above is happening, the meal is a success! We are so incredibly, overwhelmingly, truly blessed to be reaching this milestone.

(And yes, I totally understand that in a week, he might stop eating completely...again. But for the here and now, I am enjoying each and every bite!!!)

Here was Mighty Max's lunch today:

3/4 of an avocado (this is one of his favorites)
1/2 of a small tomato
a small amount of string cheese
a few spoonfuls of hummus
two small bites of chicken sausage
oatmeal/fruit baby food

How awesome is that lunch for a 2 1/2 year old? Lots of veggies and good nutrition! And he was eager the entire time for the next bite...amazing, truly amazing!!!

Max that is an outstanding lunch. And as usual I am so impressed by your mom and her incredible ways of patience, persistence and encouragement.

We LOVED seeing you at Parent to Parent. It is always so much fun to see your smiling bright face. You are such a busy boy it was hard catching up with you to say hello!

Way to go, Max! Not only are you making mommy proud by eating like a big boy, but you're bold and daring, too. Love to see kids who will branch out beyond the (not exactly healthy) staple foods of chicken nuggets and mac & cheese. And, as usual Amy, your positive energy is contagious. You're truly a role model for the rest of us mere mortals.

Not to mention the 12 bites or so of canned peaches (oh, so slimy) that he joyfully (dare I say exuberantly?) ate at school before lunch!
Great going!!

Man! If only Cooper would eat such things...let's see..today he's had 1 cup of honey nut cheerios (milk on the side, thanks.) And a bowl of yogurt supplemented with a "greens" powder that makes it all turn dark green (and he LOVES that). Go figure. I think he ate at least 1/2 an avocado a day for the first year he was eating, and then quit entirely.

GO MAX!!!
