therapists, research, doctors, giggles and messes

Today was busy with several therapy appointments, lots of phone calls and research on medical/nursing coverage, and then an unexpected doctor's visit.

It appears Max's ear drum has ruptured, and now he has an inner and outer ear infection. And boy was he unhappy when the nurse had to clean it out...whoa. The doctor (ours is out of town) was nervous that he was turning so purple, and then realized he was a "cardiac kid" and that is why he was able to turn colors so easily.

So of course more medications were prescribed, and we need to check back in a few days to make sure it is getting better. This guy doesn't seem to go more than two weeks without antibiotics! It's crazy. Unfortunately he cannot wear his hearing aide for at least a week and that always sets us back when he starts wearing it again. There is always the adjustment period.

The doctor was trying to show me the ear chart to explain all that was going on but Max was also very interested. He immediately took it and studied it very intently.

We then headed to the store to fill Max's prescriptions. Of course Max got lots of attention (mostly good!) for doing so great with his walker. Then he decided to really make me laugh by checking himself out while we were in line.

See the mirror? Max did too and quickly realized that he could see his sweet self if he bent down.

C'mon seriously...how fun is this kiddo? He had us all giggling! :)

While at the grocery store, I was inspired to try some different foods with Max. He is refusing to orally eat or even try anything besides peanut butter. Just last week, he was doing great with baby food...but that already seems like forever ago.

In hopes of finding something with lots of flavor and a near consistency of peanut butter, I bought hummus, organic peanut butter (thinking at least it would be healthier than Skippy), thick cheese dip, and mashed potatoes. No, no, no, no. He then cried and made it clear he wanted peanut butter only. So I guess my lunches will be consisting of the above mentioned food!

As you can see, Max wore much more of the food than actually entered his mouth. Here he is getting ready for his much needed bath! (You can't see it, but the food is throughout his hair too!)

What a day, what a day. Good night everyone!

Amy, you have such a great sense of humor about the eating issues. While I cant say that I know how tough it is, I can imagine that it is tough indeed, especially with the setbacks. Just keep your lovely sense of humor--oh, and enjoy the cheese dip and mashed potatoes! ;)
