max and his "helpers"

Instead of hiding Max's differences, I have always tried to teach others (especially children) about his special needs when asked about them. It's not always easy, but I think it is important.

One issue that often comes up is his need for oxygen and the Gtube. The O2 discussion is always so complicated...how in the world do you explain why a kiddo would need supplemental oxygen?

But the Gtube? Pretty easy...and most children actually think it's really cool. I really act excited about it so that they will too, i.e. "How cool is this? Max can keep playing while getting fed!"

Tonight was hilarious. We went to a picnic at a friend's house and all the kiddos just adore Max. One of the girls was asking about the Gtube extension, so I showed her. Quickly all the kiddos gathered around and wanted their turn to help "feed" Maxwell.

How cute are Max and his "helpers"? We are so blessed to have this unique group of friends!
