Yesterday I attended a training on the challenges of sensory integration and processing. It was interesting to note that just about every sensory issue that was discussed is very prevalent in CHARGE. It is the "leading" sensory deficit syndrome.
It was fairly intense but very interesting. The trainer kept emphasizing to the fellow therapists and teachers to be very aware of the extreme impact of sensory integration issues on our special children. And I must say it was a little emotional for me at times realizing all that Max deals with on a daily basis. Beyond his weak vestibular (balance) system, low muscle tone and hearing loss, he has an entire host of other sensory issues which impacts every moment of every day. His determination, inner strength, and dedication to reaching his goals is truly amazing!
And boy, do we have a long road ahead of us...this training was an important reminder of all that will need to happen upon Maxwell entering school.

Thats how I felt when I went to the family weekend for the deaf blind and I learned so much. It is hard to realize what our children are really going threw when we see them everyday and think wow they are doing so well and then we hear something and think hey our child does that....
Anyhow I am glad you got to get out and learn new things that will help Max.
Hugs,
Crystal and Eva
Hi, My name is Kim. Me & My Family have been viewing Mighty Max's Blog for quite some time now. My nephew was born in September 2006, and has CHARGE. It's been a rough 8 months, but he is progressing. My sister just started a blog for him, his name is Donavan, and he is our little miracle. Here is his blog address:
