avoiding the hospital

Max is simply not recovering from this illness and his fever spiked again last night. His congestion is causing major issues with his breathing, eating (throwing up absolutely everything because he can't stop coughing), oxygen saturations, etc. I talked with his doctor today and we are in a "wait and see" period.

Without nursing, he would definitely be in the hospital. I am soooooo incredibly grateful we can stay at home and try and treat him here in the comfort of home. We are going to give him another 24 hours to see what he does. Meanwhile, we are doing lots and lots and lots of CPT and suctioning to help clear his airway...and lots and lots of breathing treatments.

The prayers of my family continue to be with you and your mommy, Max. Even though we've never met, I care about you, little fella! Take care of yourself and your mommy, and hope you feel better soon!

When Keith was a little more than 3 years old we has similar sounding circumstances - except we no longer had nursing. Finally after weeks of antibiotics, respiratory treatments and back-to-back alternating ibuprofen and Tylenol - our ped looked at us and wrote out admitting papers. I was crestfallen, frightened and felt a failure. Well - the 5 day stay we had was like a mini Club-med. The staff were there to rally and cheer. They gave us the other bed in the room. The IV antibiotics really kicked whatever Keith was fighting in the bu** - and it really healed for me the "hospital"experience. No one was coming by to diagnose or discover. There were no surgeries to recover from. Just rest and get well. For us it was a happy story, and I am keeping in my heart the same for you and Max - whether you ride it out at home or at a five star hospital ;o) Wishing you the very best of everything- yuka
